What Is Continental Divide Mountaineering?

The Continental Divide runs along Colorado's highest peaks, separating water drainage to the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. Climbing here means operating at 12,000-14,000+ feet elevation on complex alpine terrain. Unlike trail-accessible 14ers, these routes require navigation, technical climbing skills, and the ability to assess and manage alpine hazards.

Terrain You'll Encounter:

  • Class 3-4 scrambling on exposed ridges
  • Steep snow and ice couloirs (depending on season)
  • Technical rock climbing sections (5.0-5.6 typically)
  • Alpine glacier travel and crevasse terrain
  • Complex route finding with few or no trails
  • Loose rock and objective hazards

Just wasn’t what we expected. I would classify this more as a rock climbing class than I would a guide service. Much of the class was spent learning, which is fine but I wouldn’t classify this as a guide service. When we did get to climb it felt very unenjoyable. The guide had a very specific way to do climbs which ended up feeling like we were taking a test. Our guide was also quite rude and insulted us on many occasions. In the end I think this place could use a rebrand. If they want to run a rock climbing school/lessons they should advertise it as such. Also the guides could be nicer
