RMG History & About
Rocky Mountain Guides was founded by Peter Krainz, an Austrian Bergführer (Mountain Guide) in 1992. Having moved from Austria, the heart of the Alps, to Summit County, CO, with a quick stop in New England, Peter brought Austrian Alpinism to his new home. While our focus is on Summit County, we have guided clients in the Alps and other mountain ranges across the globe. Being in business for over 30 years, RMG has evolved from a small single guide outfit focusing on rock climbing and ski mountaineering (ski touring) to a true year round guiding company with highly specialized guides for various activities.
In addition to taking guests on their very own Colorado Rockies Adventure, RMG works with local organizations focusing on youth education and non-profit organizations to maintain Summit County’s trails and routes.

His extensive outdoor experience of over 30 years has included guiding in the Alps, the Tetons and in numerous areas around Summit County, Colorado. He received his IFMGA full certification in 1986, is an Austrian certified and PSIA full certified ski instructor and has taught for the Keystone Ski School since 1988. When he is not off in the mountains, he can be found performing with his Austrian folk music ensemble Those Austrian Guys at Oktoberfests and other events all over the country or playing jazz piano with his trio Jazzwerks.
Robert Klima
Robert's love for the mountains began in his childhood in Austria, where he spent his days skiing and biking through the Alps. Initially drawn to the cardio-intensive aspects of these sports, his passion evolved when he moved to the United States and connected with fellow skiers and riders. This newfound community of friends introduced him to more gravity-oriented challenges, taking his love for skiing and biking to new heights.
Robert first came to the United States in 2010 to complete his MBA. He quickly fell in love with the country and decided to make it his permanent home. Though he initially lived on the East Coast, the mountains beckoned, leading him on numerous road trips in search of the perfect place to settle. It was during one of these adventures that he discovered Summit County, Colorado. Captivated by its beauty during a fall visit, he decided to stay and never looked back.
When he's not exploring the mountains, Robert dedicates his time to volunteering with the Summit County Mountain Bike Alliance and working on his classic trucks. His deep-rooted passion for the outdoors and commitment to community make him an invaluable part of the RMG team
